NOVEMBER 7, 1984 â FIFTEENTH DAY OF SHOOTING I"m also lacking a call sheet for this day. As the schedule grew increasingly hectic, call sheets started getting delivered at night to the crew"s motel rooms rather than on the set at wrap. I had to show up early the next morning at the T-Bird parking lot to find out where the day"s location would be. Again, the advance schedule on Monday"s call sheet listed scenes 67 and 68, which took place outside the lighthouse restaurant. However, these same scenes were also listed on Saturday"s call sheet. As a result, I honestly have no idea what was actually shot on this day.
Unaccounted for on any of my call sheets are scenes 80 and 81, where Chunk attempts to flag down a passing car only to be captured by the Fratellis. Although I was not present when this was shot, I am reasonably certain it was shot here and may well have been filmed on one of these âmissingâ dates.
NOVEMBER 8, 1984 â SIXTEENTH DAY OF SHOOTING
A number of Walsh house interiors were scheduled for Thursday, starting with scenes 40 thru 43. This sequence began with Mikey and the others playing marbles and progressed through the gang carrying out their plan to immobilize Brand with his chest exerciser and escape out the front door.
Next up was scene 46, in which Mrs. Walsh and Rosalita return from the store to find Brand still bound to his chair. The script simply read: âRosalita screams and drops her groceries.â Lupe ran with the gag, and at Donner"s urging added the kicking of the groceries across the floor. Her performance grew increasingly hilarious with each successive take and it was all the crew could do to keep from busting up in the middle of it.
In the movie, they enter the house to find Brand lying on the floor, his chair apparently having tipped over. The upsetting of the chair was actually filmed. A separate take was shot of Josh as he ad-libbed struggling against his bonds, yelling at Mikey and growing increasingly agitated until the chair fell over backward. I don"t recall if the toppling was planned or just happenstance, but Donner liked it and opted to keep it in, setting up the next scene with Brand already on the floor. Of course, the shot of the chair actually going over was never used, possibly for the sake of pacing in the edit.
The next scheduled shots were considered part of scenes 36 and 37. They were simply transitional shots of the kids running up the stairs into the attic, then back down the stairs following the attic scene. For whatever reason, these shots were not filmed on this day.
